Alpamayo, cataloged as the most beautiful mountain in the world due to its peculiar pyramidal appearance, won a photography contest in the world survey of scenic beauty carried out in München – Germany, in 1966.

The Nevado Alpamayo with a height of 5,947 meters above sea level belongs to the beautiful Cordillera Blanca of the Peruvian Andes and is part of the Nevado Santa Cruz massif, consequently it is the most attractive for professional climbers who want to climb it year after year. Despite not being a 6 thousand like the mountains that surround it (Santa Cruz, Pucajirkas and Quitaraju), it is one of the most climbed during the season due to the spectacular photographs captured at sunset from its high camp and during its ascent. Without a doubt, a challenge that keeps many people awake at night and makes them sigh.

The route that is climbed each season is the so-called Basque-French route, erroneously known by many climbers and guides as the French direct route. This route has a Difficult level of difficulty, it has between 450 to 500m of climbing, starting with 60º until reaching 85º degrees of inclination during the climb. Depending on the conditions of the mountain, even during the season, it may be impassable to reach the summit.
